create vital connections between the college and the wider community

01-27-2010 -- CCAC fundraiser nets 8 200 for Haiti relief
PITTSBURGH-A fundraiser at the Community College of Allegheny
County (CCAC) has collected $8,210 to benefit relief efforts in
Haiti. Two days after the earthquake that devastated the Caribbean
nation, CCAC President Alex Johnson called on students and
employees to contribute to the American Red Cross as CCAC's
"charity of choice." The initial drive ended Monday and included a
$1,000 donation from the CCAC Educational Foundation.
"I am humbled by your generosity and compassion for our
neighbors," said Dr. Johnson in a statement Tuesday to the college
In addition to the college-wide effort, several CCAC student
organizations are collecting household goods for a local charity to
transport to Haiti. Other fundraisers, including athletic
tournaments and musical performances, are being planned by students
and Student Life staff to support continued relief efforts.
