The CCAC Educational
Foundation is the fundraising and benefactor arm of the college. It seeks to
create vital connections between the college and the wider community
to ensure the ongoing viability of the college.
06-16-2010 -- Adams to lead community relations at CCAC
PITTSBURGH-Richard "Rick" Adams has been named to the newly
created post of executive director of community relations and
outreach at the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC)
effective July 1, 2010.
In his new role, Adams will develop and implement strategies to
promote positive linkages with the community. He will connect CCAC
to community initiatives that support education and will seek to
partner the college with community organizations to expand
accessibility to higher education throughout the region.
Adams has served in numerous capacities during his 23 years with
CCAC, including assistant to the executive dean, South campus;
acting assistant to the president; public information officer;
assistant dean, Homewood-Brushton center; assistant dean of
recruitment and outreach; assistant dean of multi-cultural affairs
and director for college and community diversity initiatives. He
currently serves as special assistant to the president for
diversity and equity.
In his current role as head of the Office of Institutional
Diversity and Equity (OIDE), Adams has promoted numerous
initiatives to enhance diversity at CCAC, including appointing
diversity officers at each of the college's four campuses and
assisting in building awareness that resulted in significant
increases in CCAC's work with Minority, Women and Disadvantaged
Business Enterprises (MWDBE). He recently participated in the
development of the college's Tactical Plan for Diversity and
Inclusion, which outlines specific steps toward making CCAC more
representative of the community it serves.
"Rick will bring his deep passion for community involvement and
education to his new position," said Alex Johnson, CCAC president.
"His skills and experience will enable us to close a gap in our
interactions with our neighbors and emphasize the 'community' in
Adams is a lifelong resident of Pittsburgh's East End. A
graduate of Westinghouse High School, he received a BA from Bowdoin
College with a double major in government and Afro-American studies
and earned an MA in business communications from Jones
Adams' commitment to community service includes serving as a
member of the Pittsburgh Human Relations Commission and previously
as an elected member of the Pittsburgh School Board. He is
currently a member of the executive committee of The Institute of
the Black World 21st Century (IBW) and an associate member of the
National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education
(NADOHE). He has also been a radio talk show host for nearly a
