• Middle States Self-Study

The Middle States Commission on Higher Education is one of six regional agencies recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education to conduct accreditation activities. Middle States is a membership association that defines, maintains, and promotes educational excellence. Accreditation through peer review provides for self-governance and keeps the business of education in our control. Middle States accreditation is reaffirmed through comprehensive self-study every eight years.

The purpose of Self-Study is to remain an accredited degree granting institution by documenting compliance with Middle States standards as well as our value to the community and society. It is also an opportunity for self-reflection, planning and improving an institution's culture.

For a quick overview of the Self-Study process, view this video.

    Second Monitoring Report

In June 2018, following removal of warning and reaffirmation of accreditation, the Commission requested a second monitoring report, due April 1, 2019, demonstrating the sustainability of implemented corrective measures and documented use of assessment results to improve educational effectiveness. The report was submitted ahead of schedule on 3/29/2019. It will be reviewed at Middle States by a Follow-up Committee in May and then by the full Commission on June 26-27.  CCAC will receive formal notice of the Commission's findings after July 4, 2019. The second Monitoring Report is here for your review.

    First Monitoring Report

In June 2017, the Middle States Commission requested a monitoring report, due March 1, 2018, documenting that the institution has achieved and can sustain ongoing compliance with Standard 14, including evidence of an organized and systematic student learning assessment process. Significant effort and resources were dedicated to achieving this result. The final draft of CCAC's first Monitoring Report is here for your reference. A Middle States Evaluation Team visited the College on March 19 to 21, 2018, and on June 21, 2018, the Commission removed the warning because the institution is now in compliance with Standard 14 (Assessment of Student Learning) and reaffirmed accreditation.

    Evaluation Team Report

The Middle States Evaluation Team conducted their visit on March 19-22, 2017 and prepared an evaluation team report. Middle States requires institutions to make the report readily available or to distribute it as widely as possible on campus, because the report is addressed to an institution’s entire constituency.

The report is intended to stimulate further discussion and action within the institution. The report should be studied open-mindedly and seriously by appropriate constituencies, because it is the thoughtful product of qualified and trained professionals.

However, the evaluation team report is not the final step in the evaluation process; it is only the report of the team that visited the institution. We will be informed of the Commission's decision by the end of June 2017.

    Draft of Self-Study Report

The Final Self-Study Report has been completed and it is posted here to allow for broad-based institutional review. Please take advantage of this opportunity to review the work of the Self-Study Steering Committee and the over one-hundred of your peers who served on Self-Study Working Groups. The report and supporting materials have already been sent to the members of our Middle States Evaluation Team. With the Self-Study Report complete, our institutional focus now turns to planning for the Evaluation Team Visit which takes place March 19-22, 2017.
