The Community College of Allegheny County will host a free seminar on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), better known as drones. Designed for novices to enthusiasts, An Intro to Part 107: What it Takes to Become & Operate as a Remote Pilot will enable attendees to discover drones for the first time, as well as prepare them to become FAA certified remote pilots. The seminar will be held at CCAC South Campus on Saturday, Nov. 11, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Room G-404.

The Community College of Allegheny County is offering a new Barber program at CCAC’s Homewood-Brushton Center that will prepare students for a career in barbering and will train them in the skills needed to become licensed through the Pennsylvania State Board of Barber Examiners.

PITTSBURGH-The Community College of Allegheny County will hold a Military & Veteran Student Appreciation Day at PNC Park on Thursday, August 24. Free tickets are available for military or veteran students, each of whom will also receive one free ticket for a guest. (Note: supplies are limited).

CCAC and the Homewood-Brushton YMCA have partnered to offer an entry-level college course designed to encourage young people of color, ages 16 to 24, who have an interest in music, media or a related field to consider attending college.

The Community College of Allegheny County's Homewood-Brushton Center is offering an Entrepreneurship certificate program that will educate aspiring entrepreneurs on how to start or grow a small business.

The Community College of Allegheny County's Allegheny Campus will host A to Z Intro to Machine Shorthand, an Introduction to Stenographic Theory on July 22 and August 5. The course is free, and students do not need to register at CCAC to attend. Classes will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in Room 436 of Milton Hall.

The Community College of Allegheny County will host College Kickstart Day at all eight of its locations on Wednesday, July 19, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The free open house events are open to all prospective students and their families.

The Community College of Allegheny County has received a grant totaling $100,000 from the PNC Charitable Trust to train workers from Washington County for jobs created by the construction of Shell Chemical's $6 billion ethane cracker plant in Beaver County.

CCAC has received the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR) 2017 HR Innovation Award. CUPA-HR is pleased to offer a $5,000 contribution to CCAC’s endowment or a scholarship fund of the HR team’s choice.

Anthony DiTommaso, vice president and general counsel, Community College of Allegheny County, has been named to the Allegheny Land Trust (ALT) Board of Directors. DiTommaso will serve a term of three years for ALT, which protects green space in Allegheny and Washington counties.

The Community College of Allegheny County's North Campus is now offering a Data Analytics Technology Associate of Science degree program that will prepare students for transfer to four-year institutions for completion of a bachelor's degree in data analytics.

The Community College of Allegheny County Board of Trustees approved a $113.8 million budget that provides for enrollment and retention initiatives, IT upgrades and deferred maintenance projects, funded through a modest tuition increase.

Miriam Wilson, MS, RD, LDN, has been awarded the 2017 Outstanding Dietetics Educator Award by the Nutrition and Dietetic Educators and Preceptors (NDEP) Area Six Regional Practice Group. Wilson, of Zelienople, an assistant professor and director of CCAC’s Dietetic programs, received the award during the NDEP regional meeting held April 20 in Baltimore.

Community College of Allegheny County student RyKai Wright was honored by Allegheny County Council, which issued an official proclamation recognizing Wright’s achievements at its April 19 meeting. A student at CCAC South and Allegheny campuses, Wright was selected as one of only six Achieving the Dream 2017 DREAM Scholars nationwide. As such, she recently attended the annual DREAM conference in San Francisco, where she engaged with other community college leaders to bring about powerful change for student success.

CCAC Boyce Campus will host Tim Stevens, chairman and CEO of The Black Political Empowerment Project (B-PEP), for “Unity in Diversity Day” on Thursday, April 20, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Student Union.

Community College of Allegheny County’s Boyce Campus will host a job fair for OTA (Occupational Therapy Assistant) and PTA (Physical Therapist Assistant) students and alumni on Monday, May 15, 2017, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Representatives from many of the region’s health care employers will be on hand to discuss available job opportunities, answer questions and provide information. Attendees are asked to dress professionally and bring copies of their resume.

The event, which is open to the public, will feature a dance presentation from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., as well as music and food from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The Community College of Allegheny County’s South Campus Energy Project has been named an awardee of the prestigious 2017 Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) announced that 21 organizations across the commonwealth will receive the award for 16 projects that represent the very best in innovation, collaboration and public service in environmental stewardship. The awardees will be recognized at an event hosted by DEP and the Pennsylvania Environmental Council on April 25 at the Hilton in downtown Harrisburg.

The Community College of Allegheny County’s Allegheny Campus will present “HBCU 101: Historically Black Colleges & Universities” on Thursday, March 30, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Foerster Student Services Center Auditorium lobby. The panel discussion will feature success stories of African-American college alumni in Pittsburgh.
